La vedette du Salon de Genève 1971 fut incontestablement la sensationnelle nouvelle Maserati Bora 4.7. Avec la présentation de la Bora, le grand constructeur de Modène emboitait le pas des autres constructeurs de supercars en adoptant le moteur central et en abandonnant simultanément le traditionnel chassis tubulaire en faveur d’une construction monocoque.

Baptisée du nom d’un vent de l’Adriatique, la Bora était l’oeuvre du studio de Giorgetto Giugiaro Ital Design, du moins en ce qui concerne sa carrosserie.

Le moteur central était le V8 quatre arbres bien connu dans sa version 4.7 litres, la boite de transaxle à cinq rapport venait de chez ZF et la suspension indépendante par triangles quatre roues était signée Giulio Alfieri, un des créateurs de la monoplace 250F de Formule 1.

Une ligne fluide et 310 ch en faisaient une voiture rapide — sa vitesse de point atteignait 258 km/h — et les accélérations, la tenue de route et le freinage de la Bora était à l’avenant.

La bora est la Première supercar Maserati à moteur central, elle fut produite à seulement 564 unités.

The star of the 1971 Geneva Motor Show was undeniably the sensational new Maserati Bora. With the presentation of the Maserati Bora, the great manufacturer of Modena followed the lead of other supercars manufacturers by adopting the central engine and simultaneously abandoning the traditional tubular chassis in favor of a monohull construction.
